There are more than one option for wiring depending on your goals.
1) CAT-5 -this is a 4-UTP wire used to handle data or 1 to 4 telephone lines. This wire will work for the Networking of your computer systems.
2) Structured Cable - This is a cable consisting of 2- RG-6 Co-Axial cables and 2 - Cat-5 cables. While using this wire is a more expensive initial investment, it enables you home to be a "Smart Home". When you wire your home with Structured cable, it makes adding video cameras, sharing media devices (DVD, VCR), adding Infrared controls, and many other optional systems offered thru Channel Plus, a simple plug and play.

1) You will run a line of wire (CAT-5 or Structured) from any location in your home where you might want a computer today, or in the future, to a central location. This is usually located in the basement of your home.
2) If you are not running Structured wire, you will also need to have a separate run from each room for the phone line.
3) In each room, run both runs of CAT-5 to a single gang electrical box (or the single run if you are using Structured wire). Here they will be connected to the finishing plate. These finishing plates will contain either plug-ins for two CAT-5 lines (computer networking and phone line), or two RG-6 inputs( TV, DVD's, Infrared control, Video camera for baby room monitoring, ect.) and two CAT-5 input (computer networking and phone line).
