Most of us enjoy a large selection of music today. Either through
CD's, Tapes, and digital satellite receivers. Why should you be limited in your
listening area. Wouldn't it be nice to relax in our own room with our
music of choice. Today's technology allows us to enjoy high quality music
anywhere in the house. And it can be made to be user both user and pocket book
friendly.
To begin to design our system, we lay out some goals:
- What type of Music Sources do I have.........am
I just interested in listening to my favorite radio station, share resources
from my home theater system, or am I looking to develop a separate music
system.
- How many Zones do I need.....What
this means is how many listening areas are there in the home. And will they
need the ability to listen to different music sources at the same time. For
example, you wish to listen to Kenny G. in your study, but junior prefers to
listen to Metalica out by the pool. They are a wide variety of ways to
distribute and control music. You want to chose the one that best meets your
needs.
- What Style of Music do I listen to.....by
this we mean, "how do I listen to music". Are you looking for some
nice quality backround music for the home or are you trying to send shock
waves through the neighborhood. This will help determine just how much power
your system should have.
- Where are my Speakers going to be located ....
Are you planning on In-Wall or In-Ceiling speakers. Do you want
speakers that are relatively invisible.
- How much control do I want...when
setting up your system, you should determine just how much control over my
components do I need. Systems can be just a series of room volume controls
up to key pads that allow you to select sources, change tracks or even page
other people in the home. Do you want IR control? Anything is possible for a
price
- Lastly, what is my technical skill level....lets
face it. Some of us are flat dangerous with power tools. When laying
out a system, you need to be honest with yourself. The worst thing
that can happen (and most expensive) is to install a system wrong and then
have to call for professional help. You should design a system that you are
comfortable with installing. If you are not the installer type, it helps to
layout you system so you have a plan before sitting down with a
professional. This way, you know that in the end, you get the system you
want, not what the installer wanted to sell that day.
