Back in the 1960's Nutone made a Stereo-Intercom system that consisted of an 2401 Amplifier with a 2402 Tuner. This system can be replaced by the IM-4406. While updating the 2401/2402 to the new IM4406, you need to remember that although the IM4406 is a great system with alot of new features, it does not have stereo capabilities. In updating to the IM-4406, you will be able to use your existing wiring. The 2401/2402 is an 8 wire(4 twisted pairs) system. The IM-4406 is a 6 wire(3 twisted pair system). When wiring the new system you will simply ignore one of the twisted pairs. Below we have included a station by station break down of the update.

| The IM-4406 is large enough to cover the foot print made by the 2401. You should put the IM-4406 in place of the 2401 Amplifier because this is were the speaker wires come into. |
2401A Master Rough-in | IR-105 Rough-in
| The 2401A is 1/4" wider and 1/2" higher than the new rough-in. This will leave a little gap around the new rough-in. This should not be a problem in that the rough-in is mounted to a stud for support and the IM-4406 cover will cover the gap. |
2402 Tuner | - | The 2402 Tuner is no longer needed. You choices are to patch the hole or leave it for a conversation piece. |
2403 Record Changer
| No Replacement | Unless you just do not like the wood look, I would keep the unit and hook it up to the IM-4406. The unit will work fine with the IM-4406. |
2404 Tape Player | No Replacement | Unless you just do not like the wood look, I would keep the unit and hook it up to the IM-4406. The unit will work fine with the IM-4406. |

| IS-448 Inside Speaker
| Nutone has made an update frame called the IA-83 that will screw into the old IR-8 rough-in. This then enables you to mount the IR-80 rough- in for the IS-448 into the IA-83 adapter frame. Since you will be using your old rough-in to hold the adapter frame, there is no wall work required. This makes the change out easy. |
2414 Outside Speaker

| Both of these speaker are connected to a volume control switch by 2 wires. The IS-79 is a direct replacement for the 2414 and will mount right on the old rough-in frame. |
