Updating the IM-3003 is easy since your old speakers will work with the new IM-3303 system. You will need to change out the old rough to the new IR-104. The only problem comes in the fact that the IM-3103 is so large compared to the IM-3303. The IM-3103 also came with a tape unit and phone. The new systems no longer have a phone interaction. You can use the CP-95 with the IM-3303 to give you the cassette player. If you do not wish to patch walls, Nutone does have an update frame available that will cover the hole.
If you are looking for a little more power and a CD player, you can upgrade to the DMC3-4. With the DMC3-4, you would be required to upgrade your room speakers.
